Development of Performance-Based Design Methods

During the last decade clients have become more sophisticated regarding the expected performance or behavior of their facilities and have requested new methods that allow them to make economic decisions regarding the level of performance of a facility related to the cost of the design and construction of it.
Professor Bertero of BFP has been at the forefront of the development of Performance based earthquake engineering.

Evaluation of the seismic Hazards, including ground motions and geotechnical hazard
Develop deterministic and probabilistic methods of analysis to perform the preliminary and final conceptual design
Develop programs to ensure the quality of construction and to ensure the proper the maintenance and function
